LaJoia is a seasoned Government and Public Affairs strategist based in South Carolina, with over 20 years of experience spanning both the private and public sectors. She has developed her expertise in communications and seamlessly transitioned into politics, showcasing a unique ability to navigate rapid change, solve complex problems, and collaborate with diverse stakeholders—including elected officials, state leaders, and community influencers—to achieve organizational and community goals.
As the leader of Alpha Strategies, LaJoia designs and implements integrated legislative and public affairs programs for a diverse client portfolio, ranging from nonprofits to corporations. She leverages her in-depth knowledge of public policy, strategic communications, and stakeholder engagement to influence decision-makers and achieve positive outcomes. LaJoia's critical thinking and persuasive writing inspire and drive impactful results.
Throughout her diverse career, she has held impactful roles, including State Government Affairs Manager for JUUL Labs, Director of External Communications for the Retirement System Investment Commission, and Executive Director for the South Carolina Legislative Black Caucus.
Currently, LaJoia serves as a Richland-Lexington Airport Commissioner at Columbia Metropolitan Airport (CAE), where she provides strategic guidance on initiatives aimed at enhancing the customer travel experience and addressing community interests.
A passionate advocate for diversity, equity, and inclusion, LaJoia was honored as a 2023 Women of Influence honoree by the Columbia Regional Business Report.
She holds a Master of Mass Communications degree from the University of South Carolina and a Bachelor of Arts in Communication Studies from Furman University.
