LaJoia Broughton

Founder/ President

LaJoia Broughton is a seasoned government relations and public affairs strategist with over 20 years of experience at the intersection of communications, politics, and policy.  Based in South Carolina, she builds strategic partnerships with elected officials, state leaders, and key stakeholders to influence outcomes, shape meaningful initiatives, and deliver results across the private and public sectors.

A Founder and Principal of Alpha Strategies, she leads a consulting firm that integrated legislative and public affairs programs to help engage policymakers, effectively, strengthen their reputation, and achieve measurable impact. Her expertise in policy, stakeholder engagement, and communications makes her a trusted advisor in high-stakes environments. 

LaJoia's career includes roles such as State Government Affairs Manager for JUUL Labs, Director of External Communications for the Retirement System Investment Commission, and Executive Director for the South Carolina Legislative Black Caucus.  These experiences sharpened her ability to craft persuasive messages, build coalitions, and move advocacy efforts at the local, state, and national levels. 

 

In addition to her consulting work, LaJoia serves as a Commissioner at Columbia Metropolitan Airport (CAE).  She contributes strategic oversight on initiatives that enhance the customer experience and address community interests.

She is a committed advocate for equitable opportunities, representation, and community advancement.  In recognition of her leadership, she was named a 2023 Women of Influence honoree by the Columbia Regional Business Report.

LaJoia holds a Master of Mass Communications degree from the University of South Carolina and a Bachelor of Arts in Communication Studies from Furman University.
